Context
Reference Range is a web app that helps science team calculate Reference Interval used across laboratories in the U.S.
The problem
Current system limitations makes process flow inconvenient, inefficient and extremely time consuming.
Principles of user-centric design
Informed decisions - based on data collected during user and stakeholder interviews.
Collaboration - cooperating with cross functional team for more informed decisions.
Accessibility - making design choices as per user feedback and WCAG standards.
Iterative design - gathering user feedback and updating design.
To address the challenges users face, the RFR redesign focused on creating a more integrated, seamless, automated, and user-friendly experience.
Main challenges
Complex product specifics & user need for a lot of data.
Big product makeover: new concept & wide scope.
Limited client's component library & limited access to DS.
Limitations: time & budget.
Addressing the core user pains head-on:
Efficient workflow and carefully considered navigation.

Seamless process and automation significantly reduced time consumption and user effort.
Integrated process allows to avoid re-entering data manually or taking process outside the app thus reducing number of human error.

New user flow allows to navigate through different steps of the process and to re-iterate without having to start over.
Relevant cases "under one roof"
Introduced a new concept of a Study - a way to keep work organised, in one place, easily accessible and informative.

Introduced statuses, sorting and search functionalities for better data management.
Design system
Created case specific component library and descriptions.

Result: phase 1 & 2
Process automation reduced manual work and helped to avoid > 87 % of human error.
Increased efficiency - case handling time on avg. reduced from 17 hrs to 3hrs.
Improved data access and handling - it is stored and organised in one place.
Final takeaways
Even though some solutions may use more iterations and improvements, the goal is to show how my problem solving skills and effective collaboration with cross-functional team can help users and business.
While designing for scientists, main UI and UX focus was to adhere to specific users' needs & present information in a clear and concise as well as user friendly way while handling big amounts of data.
